prop & lx fabricator

The Prop & LX Fabricator position is an integral member of our core fabrication team and will be responsible for building custom scenery, props, sculpture, furniture, and experiential environments. Projects frequently require integrated lighting, electronics, and interactive elements, making this an ideal position for a fabricator who enjoys both hands-on construction and technical problem-solving.

This position is first and foremost a fabrication role. Candidates should be comfortable building in wood, metal, plastics, and specialty materials while also possessing experience integrating low-voltage lighting and electrical systems into finished projects.

This is NOT a construction electrician position. We are seeking a creative fabricator who can comfortably move between carpentry, welding, prop building, scenic fabrication, sculpture, and custom lighting integration.

Responsibilities and Experienced Technical Knowledge:

  • Strong finish carpentry and fabrication skills.

  • Experience with woodworking equipment, assembly techniques, and custom fabrication.

  • MIG welding and metal fabrication experience strongly preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, fabrication documents, and wiring diagrams.

  • Ability to independently fabricate, assemble, and troubleshoot projects from start to finish.

  • Experience integrating lighting into custom props, scenery, sculpture, exhibits, displays, or experiential environments.

  • Experience with low-voltage electrical systems and custom lighting installations.

  • Proficiency with soldering, wiring, and electrical assembly.

  • Understanding of LED systems, drivers, transformers, power supplies, dimming systems, and basic electronics.

  • Familiarity with DMX protocols, addressing, and troubleshooting.

  • Ability to calculate voltage, amperage, power consumption, and load requirements.

  • Experience troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems.

  • Ability to switch between woodworking, metal fabrication, finishing, and electrical tasks throughout the course of a project.

  • Shop maintenance and daily upkeep.

  • Time management, reliability, and a positive attitude are a must.

  • Experience with theatrical, museum, exhibit, themed entertainment, experiential marketing, or scenic fabrication environments is a strong plus.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

  • BFA plus 3 years of fabrication experience, or 5+ years of professional fabrication experience.

This is a full-time position with an hourly base rate of $33–35/hr, negotiable based on experience. This position includes paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave as part of its benefits package.

With a commitment to furthering diversity and inclusion, we STRONGLY ENCOURAGE applications from candidates who are not historically represented in our field.
