carpenter & cnc operator

The CNC Operator & Finish Carpenter is an integral member of our core fabrication team and will be responsible for translating technical drawings into finished physical objects. This role combines CNC set up and operation, woodworking, assembly, and creative problem-solving across a wide variety of materials and project types.

Candidates should be equally comfortable operating CNC equipment, fabricating custom components, assembling finished projects, and contributing to the overall success of the shop. Because every project is unique, flexibility, curiosity, and a willingness to jump between disciplines are essential.

Responsibilities and Experienced Technical Knowledge:

  • Experience operating and maintaining CNC routers in a professional fabrication environment.

  • Strong woodworking and finish carpentry skills.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, shop drawings, and fabrication documents.

  • Experience with sheet goods, hardwoods, plastics, composites, and specialty materials.

  • Understanding of CNC toolpaths, workholding methods, feeds and speeds, and machine setup.

  • Ability to independently fabricate, assemble, and troubleshoot projects from start to finish.

  • Experience with installation methods and hardware.

  • Shop maintenance and daily upkeep.

  • Time management, reliability, and a positive attitude are a must.

  • Experience with Vectorworks, Fusion 360, Rhino, Aspire, VCarve, or related software is a plus.

  • Scenic fabrication, prop building, sculpture, or exhibit fabrication experience is a definite plus.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

  • BFA plus 3 years of fabrication experience, or 5+ years of professional fabrication experience.

This is a full-time position with an hourly base rate of $33–35/hr, negotiable based on experience. This position includes paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave as part of its benefits package.
